                                        FIFA 15 Ultimate Team Tips

There is nothing like FIFA Ultimate Team. As the original--and still the best--card-collecting fantasy sports video game mode, it captivates fans around the world. Every day, millions of FUT (as they like to call it) players take their customised, unique squads online to battle friends and strangers across the globe in pursuit of football glory. Since its inception, Ultimate Team has gotten bigger and better with each annual FIFA release, giving players more ways to build out a team and have fun in a world of sports fantasy.
If you're new to Ultimate Team, wondering just what the heck everybody gets so excited about, then you are definitely in the right place. FUT is a ton of fun--just ask any of the people that throw themselves into it--but it's its own world, complete with a unique language and experience. We are here to help you navigate the world of FUT, and have a blast while doing so.
In this guide, you'll learn everything you need to jump in and enjoy yourself. FIFA 15's Ultimate Team is the best version yet, making it simpler for newcomers to get their feet wet and veterans to continue to master their craft. We'll get you going down the best path for success, help you assemble a terrific club, and--best of all--do it without spending any extra money other than the sixty bones you already dropped to get FIFA 15 in the first place.

Getting Started

Let’s get started by taking a tour of the FIFA 15 Ultimate Team menus. After all, there are about 20 different directions you could go--so let's make sure you start the right way.
FUT Central is the main page you see when you jump into Ultimate Team. From here you’ll have the option to continue whatever play mode you were in last (Single Player Season as seen here), compare your team against your friends in the Leaderboard area, and see updates and messages from the team behind FUT in the bottom right.
The Play menu is where you’re going to get into the nitty gritty of playing FUT matches. In Single Player Season, you take on the computer in 10 game campaigns and, depending on how many points you earn, you can move up levels to earn more in-game currency. Online Season is the same concept, but you play against other online players rather than the CPU. Single Player Seasons are a great place to begin, with no real risk nor the chance to get smoked by a human opponent right from the start.
Single Player Tournaments are where you play a best-of-16 single elimination tournament vs the CPU. These tournaments usually have entry requirements that your squad must fit. For example, the Bronze International Shield requires you to have a squad of only Bronze players in the team’s starting 11 and subs, as well as minimum of three nations represented. Winning these tournaments will get coins and/or card packs. As with Online Seasons, Online Tournaments are the same as Single Player Tournaments, only against humans.
Team of the Week is where you can challenge the in-form players from the previous week of real life football. In-Form cards have black around the edges and have boosted stats compared to their regular counterparts.
In the bottom right of the Play menu are three options--Friendly Seasons, where you can play against someone on your friends list in a five game seasons, Online Single Match, where you play a one off game against a random online opponent, and Play A Friend’s Squad, here you play one of your friend’s squad but they players are controlled by the CPU.

Tour of the Menus

The Squads menu is where you’ll be spending a good chunk of your time. From here, you will manage your entire club and the various squads within it that make up your Match Day configurations. Unlike most other Ultimate Team modes, you can have entirely different 'squads' put together to go out and accomplish tasks. You will need to create some squads to match the victory criteria of a challenge--such as have an all-German team--plus you can create your own custom squads based on whatever you'd like. Squads are one of the reasons FIFA Ultimate Team is so popular. We have an entire section dedicated to Squads in a little bit, so don't worry--we've got you covered!
Active Squad lets you edit your current squad that you’ll be using. My Squads brings up a list of all your current squads, as well as where you will create new ones from all the players on your team. Concept Squads is a new addition to FIFA Ultimate Team; here you’ll be able to plan out squads you want to build in the future. It also gives you an easy interface to search for players you want to get.
The Store is a wonderful and dangerous place. This is where you go to build your team up through purchases packs of cards. These packs contain players, coaching staff, uniforms, stadiums and more. While all packs are purchasable with coins, you can also purchase FIFA Points with money to buy packs--but you won't need to if you follow this guide!
Gold Packs takes you directly to Gold Packs in the store rather than going through Browse Packs. The bottom right area here contains the same messages as on the FUT Central Menu.
The Transfers screen is one you’ll definitely come to know and love, and happily spend hours perusing. The Transfer Market is where you’ll find cards put up for auction by other players of Ultimate Team. Using this, you’ll be able narrow a search to just the card you're looking for. You can also see a smattering of all the Gold level cards available by choosing Search Gold Players--however, you might get caught up in the moment and overspend for a card just because its auction is expiring soon. Don't do it!
You can put your own cards up for auction in the Transfer Market via the Transfer List screen. Transfer Targets is where you will find all the cards you are bidding on, or one that you’ve marked to watch. Search (Insert Team) Players uses your Favourite Team that is setup on your profile--so if you're partial to Everton or Barcelona footballers, this makes it easy to find them. However, we strongly recommend that you target players directly through the Transfer Market selection so as to avoid rash decisions based upon your love for a particular player or a club you support. Search Contracts will bring up all the Contract cards on the Transfer Market, beginning with those finishing the soonest. We've got a whole section all about the Transfer Market too!
On the My Club page, the My Club tile allows you to search through all of the players, staff, club items, etc that you currently have. Sort through club stats via Player Stats, including Games, Goals, Assists and Yellow and Red Cards. Leaderboards is the same tile from the FUT Central menu. Manager Tasks is a list of 18 things for you to do to get familiar with FUT as well as the location for Ultimate Team tutorials--another great place to visit early in your Ultimate Team career. Play A Friend’s Squad Results shows you how you fared against buddies. The Delete Club option is the ultimate kill switch; you can delete your club and start over from scratch. If you choose this option all of your Squads, Players, Coins and other items will be removed permanently. You probably don’t want to use that option.

Tournaments

Single Player Tournaments are a great way to start playing FUT--you earn coins and other rewards, based upon the tournament (see the section all about Coins and Currency for more details on that). There are always fourteen tournaments available to you. They range from the Starter Cup, which is on Beginner difficulty, has no requirements, and rewards you with 500 coins, all the way up to the Ultimate Cup, which is on the Ultimate difficulty level, requires you have 100 team Chemistry, and rewards you with 2,000 coins and a Gold Pack. The other Single Player Tournaments have a variety of requirements that your team must meet before your squad is allowed to play in them. An example of this is the Quad-League Classic, which requires your squad have a maximum of four leagues represented in your Starting 11.
Throughout the year there will be extra Single Player Tournaments that will pop up from time to time. These are usually based on something going on in real life. For example, two recent Tournaments were the North London Cup, which required your squads Starting 11 be made up of only Arsenal and Spurs players, and the Merseyside Cup, which require it contain only awesome Everton and dastardly Liverpool players. Evidently an Everton supporter is writing this tips guide!
All Single Player Tournaments are a best-of-16 single elimination tournament. To win you’ll need to win four games in a row. Great starting tournaments are the Starter Cup, Midlands Invitational, and Gold Challenge. Taking the time to win these tournaments will give you a nice amount of coin to start heading to the Transfer Market (more on that later).
Online Tournaments are similar to the Single Player Tournaments; the main difference is that there are only three and all the games are against online opponents instead of the CPU. The three tournaments are the Bronze Classic, which requires a squad of all Bronze players, the Silver Classic, which requires a squad of all Silver players, and the Champions Shield, which has no requirement. Avoid these at all costs until you've proven yourself in the Solo Tournaments.
As with the Single Player Tournaments, there are special ones rolled out on a regular basis.

These are purchased with your FFC points and made available depending on your EASFC Level.

Squads

Unlike the Ultimate Team modes in other EA Sports games that allow you to create a single "superteam," FIFA 15’s Ultimate Team encourages you to assemble as many players as you possibly can and create multiple "squads." Within your overall roster of talent, specific squads exist to allow you to craft very fine-tuned groups of players to accomplish specific tasks or meet defined requirements. The best part of squad construction is experimenting with a wide variety of players.
One of the niftiest additions to Ultimate Team this year is the system to build Concept Squads. Now you can create a squad any players available in Ultimate Team, and while you can’t use them in games, you can use it as a template for what your squad will look look in the future. By going into the Squads menu and selecting the Concept Squads tile, you’ll not only be able to create new Concept Squads from pre-built ones such as a Barclays Premier League Concept or a Bundesliga Concept, but also players who are Target Men and other options. This is extremely helpful to get over the typical FUT player question of "how the heck do I try and put this kind of a group together?"

There is also an option to create a Concept Squad using the Squad Builder feature. Here, you simply put in some options for a Squad you want to use. For example, let's say Silver players from Germany that play in the Bundesliga in a 4-5-1 formation. Just hit Build Squad, and bingo! It pulls up a squad based on those choices. Brilliant.
You can then edit the squad by selecting any player and hitting the Square Button (X on Xbox) and swapping players out for others. Another excellent feature here is that you can also hit the Square Button (X on Xbox) and select Search for Player on Transfer Market. This will bring up all the available cards of that player that are currently available.
This tool is great for building teams for Single Player or Online Tournaments that have squad requirements. The best part of Concept Squads and Squad Builder is that they take into consideration one of the most important things a Squad needs, Chemistry. More on that next!

Chemistry 101

In FIFA 15 Ultimate Team, you can have the best 11 players in the world on the pitch--but if they don’t have Chemistry it doesn't matter. Teams with a high rating and low chemistry are routinely picked apart by lower-rated teams with high chemistry. So how do you fix that? Let’s talk Chemistry and how it will help your squad be better than the rest.
There are two things that go into a players chemistry rating--the position they are in and the players around them. As an example, let’s look at a middle line that’s been created here using the Concept Squads screen we previously discussed.
Starting on the left we have Chelsea’s LM Eden Hazard. As you can see from the Green dot below his card, he is extremely happy with playing the position of LM. Because of that, he gets 3 points of Chemistry, along with the 1 point he has for being in the starting lineup.
Next, we add in Bayern Munich’s CM Thiago. As you can see, they have no connection to each other as signified by the red line between them. This is due to the fact they hail from different countries and play in different domestic leagues. Because of that, they both only have 4 Chemistry; thankfully they at least have that, which comes from playing in their correct positions.
Now, if we add Dortmond’s CM Gundogan, you’ll notice that Thiago gets an added 3 points of Chemistry. That is because he and Gundogan are both on Bundesliga teams. You’re probably wondering why Thiago is only a 7 while Gundogan is a 10. That is because currently Gundogan has no one else effecting his Chemistry. On the other hand Thiago is getting 6 points of Chemistry from Gundogan, but he also has to factor in Hazard on his left. Because Hazard does not match Thiago in any way, he is receiving -3 chemistry from him. Bummer!
Now say we bring in Barcelona’s CM Iniesta to play to the right of Gundogan. You’ll see his Chemistry drop to a 7, because his base, 4, is having 6 added from Thiago, but then is getting -3 removed due to Iniesta being there.
So that's not going to work. Instead, let’s bring in Bayern Munich’s CM Schweinsteiger and you see Gundog an goes back up to 10. What's interesting is that shows 10 because that is the limit that can be displayed. In actuality, behind the scenes, they have a Chemistry of 16 (the hard cap). There is base 4 plus 6 from being from the same league, plus 6 more from being from the same nation. Because of that, no matter who you put next to Schweinsteiger at RM, the lowest he’ll drop to is 13. It would take 3 players pushing -3 Chemistry at him to bring him down to a 7. So in theory, two players playing next to each other that share a league and a nation, plus playing their correct position, will have a Chemistry rating of 16. Sweet! You'll only see 10 on their card, but behind the scenes you'll be at the maximum value.
The best thing you can do is always have your players in the correct position with at least two players connecting to them that match either their league, or nation or origin. This is the FIFA 15 Ultimate Team Chemistry Golden Rule. Just remember that even though a card says 10 Chemistry, he could actually have a 16 behind the scenes.

Player Cards

Player cards are the lifeblood of Ultimate Team. They convey tons of valuable information and are the visual building blocks for your team and squads. Player cards contain 4 sets of information on them which can be accessed by moving left or right on the right stick.
The main view of a card shows you the player's base ratings. These are Pace (PAC), Dribbling (DRI), Shooting (SHO), Defence (DEF), Passing (PAS) and Physical (PHY). While the others are straightforward, Physical is actually a rating derived from a mixture of the players Strength, Stamina and jumping abilities.
The second set shows you the player's Nation, Team and League. The third shows you their remaining Contracts and current Fitness level. The fourth shows you’re their current Chemistry Style.
As a player's Chemistry goes up from his surrounding teammates, these chevrons will turn green and give the player a boost in those stats. With a Basic Chemistry Style, players will get an even boost across the board. Using Chemistry Style consumables on a player will allow you to change his style and affect which of those categories get a boost. Wait, Consumables? What's that?

Consumables

Good thing you asked! Consumables allow you to boost your player attributes for varying levels and amounts of time.

  • Player Training - Increase a player's attributes for the next match.
  • Goalkeeper Training - Increase a goalkeeper's attributes for the next match. (Goalkeeper specific)
  • Position Change - Move a player from one favourite spot to another.
  • Chemistry Styles - Change a player's style of play.
  • Manager League - Change a Manager's assigned league.
  • Contracts - Increase their number of remaining matches a player can remain.
  • Fitness - Increase a player's fitness rating.
  • Healing - Reduce a player's duration of injuries.

Club Items

Club items let you distinguish your custom Ultimate Team from everyone else's. These are purely cosmetic, but their importance remains.

  • Badges - These are the team logos. The badge that you have set to Active is the one you will see in the top left of your screen as well as in the Tournament brackets.
  • Kits - These are your jerseys. You can have 2 active kits, one for home and one for away. Try to have kits on the opposite side of the colour spectrum in case you’re playing someone online, you don’t want to have matching colours.
  • Stadia - The Active stadium is the one where you will play your home games.
  • Balls - The Active ball is the one you will use during your home games.

Staff Items

Staff items are excellent ways to improve your chances in an important match. Use them wisely--not just anytime, but when you know that extra boost will help you over the hump.

  • Mangers - Your squad's manager will add to your team's Chemistry as long as there are players who play in the same League as he is set to. Also, depending on your Active manager, players can get an extra percentage of contracts when you apply Contract cards to them.
  • Head Coaches - These coaches gives your team a percentage bump on their base attributes.
  • GK Coaches - Same as Head Coaches, but they are for your goalkeepers.
  • Fitness Coaches - These boost your team's fitness and allow your players to Fitness ratings to drop as quickly.
  • Physio Coaches - These reduce your team's chances of injury and help keep their injuries shorter when they do occur.

Website and Companion App

One of the best features of FIFA Ultimate Team is that you are given the ability to manage your team when you’re away from your console. By going to the Ultimate Team web app you are able to do everything you can do on the console aside from play games.

Manage your current squads, create new ones, and use concept squads on the web. You can even place bids on players on the Transfer Market, as well as buy packs with Coins or FIFA Points. FIFA 15 Ultimate Team can follow you around wherever you go--for better or worse!
There is also a mobile app version available on the Google Play Store or iTunes called the EA SPORTS™ FIFA 15 Companion. Just like the web app, you can do anything you can do on the console (other than play games of course). This is great (although highly detrimental to your social life) if you are on the go and want to make that late-night Transfer List purchase.
  • iTunes
  • Google Play
An important note--you can only be signed into either the console game, web app, or mobile app. You cannot be signed into multiple ones at the same time.

FIFA Currency

There are two types of currency within FIFA Ultimate Team--Coins and FIFA points. They are shown on the upper left of most Ultimate Team menus.
Coins are earned through playing games or selling cards via the Transfer Market. These coins can be spent on packs or cards on the Transfer Market. In other words, you want coins. Lots and lots of coins. Good, sweet, nectar of Ultimate Team life.
FIFA Points are purchased through the PS Store or Microsoft Marketplace with real money. These can only be used to purchase packs from the in-game store. Also, while these points can be used to purchase packs via the Web App and FIFA 15 Companion, they cannot be purchased there. They can only be purchased on the console. You don't want to use real money unless you're rich or... well, that's it. Unless you're rich.
FIFA Points can be bought in multiple denominations. 100 FIFA points will cost $0.99; this is enough to buy two Silver Packs or one Gold Pack. Point purchases can be made from $0.99 for 100 points all the way up to $99.99 for 12,000 points. Yes, that's right. With 1 click of a button you can drop 100 bucks for digital trading cards. Don't do it!
You can have a lot of fun playing Ultimate Team without spending one dollar. It might seem to be a smart investment to purchase the Silver and Gold Upgrade packs when you start playing Ultimate Team, these are the packs intended to get you into the mindset of spending money. As you can see they are priced in a way that makes them not work purchasing with Coins. 15,000 coins for a Silver Upgrade pack would be much more wisely spent on six regular Silver Packs. If you’re willing to spend a few dollars, the value in those packs is there, because the Point Price of 50 is equal to the point price of a regular Silver Pack. Don't do it!

Transfer Market

While real soccer games are won and lost on the field, FUT matches can be won and lost on the Transfer Market. While opening up packs is all fun and good, you’ll need to use the Transfer Market to sell off cards you don’t want, or purchase that superstar you need leading your team. Get to know and love the Transfer Market in order to truly compete in Ultimate Team.
There are multiple ways to search for a player you want. You can do so either directly from the Concept Team squad page or through the Transfer Market. In the Transfer Market you can search for a specific player by name, or narrow down options by card quality, player position, player Chemistry Style, Nationality, League, Club, Price, or any mix of those.
When the search results come up, you’ll get back all the cards that meet the criteria you entered. You’ll see the Start Price, Current Bid, Buy Now Price (if applicable), as well as the Time Remaining. People will put up cards for all sorts of crazy prices, so use the Pricing search parameters to limit your options. This will help that you not overpay for a card.
Like an auction, if you are the highest bid on a card, you win it. If a bid is placed within the last 30 seconds of an action, the time remaining will reset to 30 seconds. So if you place a bid with 3 seconds left, it will reset, so “sniping” a card at the last second doesn’t happen.
Cards you’ve recently bid on will show up in the Transfer Targets tile of the Transfers menu.
To sell your cards on the Transfer Market, simply select the card either from your Squad or from within My Club from the My Club menu and tile, using Square (X on Xbox) and select List On Transfer Market. Simply enter the Starting Price, Buy Now Price and Duration of the auction.
You’ll want to check out what that card is going for on the Transfer Market before putting them up so you can determine a realistic market value. Otherwise no one will bid on it.
By default you can have a maximum of 30 cards on your Transfer List at one time. This limit can grow with purchases from the EA Sports Football Catalogue. Cards you put up for auction will remain on your Transfer List if they are sold or not. You can view Sold Items, Listed Items, and the cards remaining on you Transfer List on the Transfer menu in the Transfer List tile.
If you have cards that you’ve listed, but have not sold, you can easily re-list all of them from the Transfer List menu in one action rather than re-listing each one individually.

Safety

With the immense popularity of FIFA’s Ultimate Team and the hundreds of millions of dollars spent by players on this mode, there is a shady underbelly of people out there that want to get their hands on some of that money. Remember, EA Sports will never ask you for your password through e-mail or via message on either PSN or Xbox Live.
If you’re a Twitter user, only interact with @EASPORTSFIFA or their Verified accounts from other countries. When you do mention them, there is a good chance that a bot with a made up account will message you back saying something along the lines of “Click here to redeem your free Ultimate Team Packs” with a link. These links lead to non-EA Sports sites that will take your username and password and can wipe your account of all its points, cards and coins. Yikes! Don't do it.
